Mentorship
Mentorship has been at the heart of WWCBF, extending its impact beyond the one-day event. The team works year-round to support aspiring young business owners as they develop ideas, create products, and prepare to bring their businesses to life. Through a mix of large-group and small-group workshops, WWCBF helps participants build problem-solving and leadership skills that last far beyond the fair. Some sessions are designed for larger audiences, while others are intentionally kept small to foster deeper connections.
An example is WWCBF’s partnership with For Girls Like Quaneisha Mentoring Program, a nonprofit serving girls facing challenging circumstances. The team traveled to Fuquay-Varina, NC, to lead a series of workshops that helped participants brainstorm product ideas and prepare to sell at the fair. These workshops were conducted in a small-group setting to nurture closely-knit relationships, especially with shy or reserved participants.
In one of the sessions, a successful teen entrepreneur shared her journey, lessons learned, and answered questions from the girls. Her story not only inspired the audience but also encouraged them to explore their own business ideas with confidence. Several girls from the For Girls Like Quaneisha Mentoring Program completed the full process - from design and marketing to pricing strategy and customer interaction - and proudly sold their products at the WWCBF. The experience provided not only practical skills, but also a strong sense of accomplishment and self-worth.
